Alejandro Fernández (born April 24, 1971) is a popular Latin Grammy-winning Mexican singer nicknamed as "El Potrillo" ("The Colt") by the media and his fans.

He is the son of Vicente Fernández, also a popular Mexican country singer. His nickname "El Potro" (the colt) was given to him by the media and his fans because of his being the son of Vicente, who is nicknamed "El Gran Garañón" (the stallion).

Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, he trained as an architect but turned to singing in 1991, encouraged by his father. A year later, he released his first album, titled Alejandro Fernández. Since then, he has recorded 13 albums and sold a reported 15 million records, working with producers such as Emilio Estefan and Kike Santander. Fernández also has portrayed the lead role in Zapata: The Dream of a Hero, a 2003 movie about the Mexican revolutionary hero Emiliano Zapata by filmmaker Alfonso Arau, which proved to be one of the greatest disappointments in the Nuevo Cine Mexicano era, spending 7 million dollars in production and publicity but faring poorly at the box office.

He had three children (Alejandro, Jr. and the twins, América and Camila) with his wife, Mexican América Guinart, whom he left for his now ex-girlfriend, Colombian model Ximena Díaz. He has two children with her, Emiliano and Valentina.

Alejandro was recently involved in another infidelity scandal after having been photographed in compromising positions with 25-year-old Linda Alarcón at the Delano Hotel in Miami Beach. He has since denied any involvement with the Mexican model. He received his Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2005.[1] He is feautured on the cover of People en Español's June 2007 "Los 50 Más Bellos" (The 50 Most Beautiful) issue along with Beyoncé Knowles, Adamari Lopez and Angelica Valle
